This image is the galaxy cluster SMACS 0723, including foreground stars recognizable by the characteristic diffraction spikes, and even more distant galaxies magnified and lensed into orange-red arcs by the cluster's mass, which curves spacetime according to the general relativity. The Near-Infrared Camera (NIRCam) image extends far beyond Hubble's deepest fields in just 12.5 hours of observation time.

On the back, our custom graphic design features the JWST spacecraft with its iconic gold segmented primary mirror and pink sunshield. The blue and gray circles of the Earth and the Moon, and the yellow rays of the distant Sun, place the space telescope at , a million miles from Earth and always opposite the Sun, hence the slogan "A Million Miles Beyond Midnight".
